While the Christie?s auction starting 16th of October will embrace magnificent jewels from all around the world, an 8ft (2.5 meter) sculpture of a diamond by US artist Jeff Koons is anticipated to fetch around $12m (£6m) when it is sold at Christie’s sale of post-war and contemporary art in New York on 13 November. Interestingly, the blue “diamond” is, in fact, made of polished steel and chromium and is a part of the artist’s celebrated Celebration series. Other than the Blue Diamond, up for auction will be an Andy Warhol portrait of Elizabeth Taylor, which is expected to fetch $25m (£12m).

If Blue Diamond manages to reach its estimate, it would double the previous record price paid at auction for Koons’ work. Earlier, a sculpture of Michael Jackson and his pet monkey Bubbles, went for $5.6m (£2.8m) in 2001. Well, the Blue Diamond is said to represent an egg, which is being fertilized by the four gold-colored prongs that hold it in place. In all, there are four versions of the diamond, including red, pink and green sculptures that are in private hands while a yellow version is currently in production.
