Man Made Island Fort Now For Sale

July 17, 2007

No Man's Land Fort (Images courtesy Spluch)

Most people who dream of owning an island don’t think about the logistics involved. Sure you might enjoy that private beach and other benefits but getting other necessities like power, utilities and even building supplies can be quite a challenge. So might I suggest investing in a man made island instead that already has all the luxuries you’ve come to enjoy on the mainland. No Man’s Land Fort was originally built between 1861 and 1880 off the coast of Portsmouth, England and was designed to house up to 80 soldiers to help fend off the French Navy. At nearly 200 feet across the fort rises 60 feet above the ocean and already has generators for electricity and its own water supply.

Recently the fort has been used as a luxury hotel with guests arriving by boat or using one of the islands’ two helipads. There are 21 well appointed rooms and even a heated indoor swimming pool under a large glass canopy. But I guess such isolation is not that popular a vacation resort since the previous owner is currently in jail after his company collapsed. But on the plus side it means the island is now up for sale and is expected to sell for somewhere around $8 million. Quite a steal if you ask me.

I have always fantasized of owning a castle but sadly, my account balance doesn?t lets me do so. But, if you are the one with heaps of money floating around, you could buy one. The legendary and mythic Bran Castle, or prevalently known as Dracula?s Castle in Transylvania has been put on sale by an heir of Romania?s former royal family who hopes to get a buyer who will respect the property and its history.

Built on 200 ft. tall rock, the castle has 57 inviting rooms, courtyard, and underground passages. It is said that Prince Vlad the Impaler, the ferocious warlord who inspired Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” character, lived in this castle for one night in 1400s. Digging a bit deep into the past, the Bran castle is believed to be originally built as a stronghold by the Teutonic Knights in 1212. From 1920 to 1948, the castle became the residence of royal family.

Presently, the historical castle is operating as a museum of medieval arts and about 450,000 people visit the castle every year. And yes, do remember that you will be greeted by bats flying around the ramparts at twilight. Anyway, pricing hasn?t been announced but the historical Dracula?s castle is expected to fetch at least $135 million. Wish I could but Alas?!

Swimming is a great exercise and we all know very well its aerobic benefits but most of us can?t afford Olympic-sized swimming pools for the beneficial lap-swimming. Earlier, we introduced you to the ExerSwim Current generator and now, we have a Pool Treadmill that transforms your swimming pool into a twirling exercise machine. All you need to do is to hook trailer and electric motor to the end of your pool and enjoy a swim against a downstream current of up to 6 mph. The powerful 24-volt DC motor of the portable swim current generator produces 80 ft. lbs. of thrust offering you an extended swimming exercise for up to 30 minutes in a residential pool. As it uses rechargeable batteries, you can even take it with your to your neighbor?s BBQ to share the experience. The Pool Treadmill costs a whopping $4000 but that will compensate for the fact that you never have to turn around at the edge of your pool again.

Interestingly, as Salem was refitted for a Middle Eastern client, it has an atypical layout where men and women are housed on different sets of self contained decks.

The comfy and luxurious yacht is presently berthed in Palma de Mallorca. Salem offers plenty of space for her length and is priced at sharp $19,750,000 at Edmiston.
