SylvanSport GO Miniature Camping Trailer
September 18, 2007

The SylvanSport GO camping and travel trailer is a great compromise between the simplicity of sleeping in a tent and the comfort of sleeping in a motor home. The trailer works like one of those pop-up campers but has a considerably smaller footprint and only weighs in at around 700 lbs allowing it to be pulled by smaller cars.
The tent can be setup in minutes and includes a custom Therm-A-Rest camp mattress that’s equal to a king-size and a half of sleeping surface. (Or it can be configured with two twin-size beds.) It also includes stargazing windows, excellent ventilation and the beds even convert to a table for when the weather or bugs made eating outside unpleasant. The tent itself packs down and stows inside the trailer’s roof/storage box allowing it to be used for hauling other gear when you’re not sleeping in it.
Of course if you also prefer camping on the cheap you might want to stick with your tent and air mattress since the GO trailer will set you back about $6,000.

Concussion-Sensing Soccer Helmet by Riddell
September 10, 2007

Parents of soccer fanatic kids can now heave a sigh of relief! By paying an amount of $1,000 for a football helmet that monitors the exact location and gravity of impacts to the child?s head, while playing, the helmet can ensure your kid’s safety.
The leading helmetmaker Riddell is all set to deliver this life saving equipment in November. The players often knock heads, but it is not easy to predict which of the hits can lead to a mild traumatic brain injury. It is a misconception among people that concussions are accompanied with a loss of consciousness. The helmet uploads impact data onto a PC after the child is back from a game and the child?s family can conveniently log in for Web-based analysis to know if he needs immediate medical help.
Riddell is famous for its high-tech helmets, which are popular among eight colleges. They wirelessly relay data to a sideline computer that in turn sends a pager alert, if a player receives a blow or various blows exceeding a particular magnitude.
There is a little catch here. A player may come out untouched by an impact of a magnitude, which may shake another one. It is not decided what a parent can do with the impact data, unless more information is available about the causes of concussions. Besides, players cannot be pulled out of a game merely because they have registered some high-value hits.
All said and done, the helmet looks useful to me as it can alert the parents of an internal head injury, which may lead to fateful consequences.

LOOKER 25 Glass Bottom Speed Boat
July 4, 2007

Scuba diving isn’t for everyone but for those who want to stay above the water and still check out what’s going on below a glass bottom boat is a great compromise. PARITETBOAT has a whole line of glass bottom equipped boats that are also capable of reaching speeds of up to 40 knots. While going that fast isn’t exactly ideal for underwater observations it’s great for tour companies who quickly want to get their guests out to an ideal viewing location.
The boats come in a variety of sizes and while the LOOKER 25 is considered mid-range seating about 6 observers the largest craft, the LOOKER 35 can seat over twice that. The underwater viewing window is shaped as an optically regular spheroid and measures 2×3 meters in size which is apparently the biggest in the world. It’s made of modified acrylic with a thickness of 15mm and anyone worried about it cracking should be relieved to know it’s actually more solid than the boat’s fiberglass hull.
The LOOKER series of glass bottom boats are primarily aimed at hotels or other tourist-related companies in parts of the world where scuba diving has become popular. But there’s nothing stopping you from ordering one for the cottage and checking out what secrets lie at the bottom of the local lake.

ZEM 2cycle - Almost Not Embarassing To Ride
June 27, 2007

When it comes to alternative fuel sources for powering a vehicle I think pedal power has solar, hydrogen and electric all beat. Besides a bit of sweat there’s no harmful emissions to speak of and the driver and passenger both get a great workout. Unfortunately though pedal powered ‘cars’ usually look pretty dorky but the 2cycle from ZEM (Zero Emission Machines) doesn’t look half bad.
While I don’t recommend if for your daily commute to the downtown core it could make for a nice trip around the neighborhood, retirement village or even campground. Without any passengers the 2cycle weighs about 93 pounds but can support 2 riders with a combined weight of up to 485 pounds. It has 2 independent 7-speed hub gears with reverse gear for all speeds, 4 18 inch spoke wheels, 2 independent hydraulic disc brake systems, a parking brake, 4-point Elastomer shocks, 2 folding bucket seats with safety harnesses and even a large baggage platform.
But at about $4,500 for the 2cycle ‘red’ version pictured above, and about $7,100 for the more advanced ’silver’ version you just might be better off taping a couple of bicycles together with some old lawn chairs.

Poseidon 180 superyacht costs a whopping $50 million
June 25, 2007

A few days back, we were drooling at the Sabdes concept megayacht and many other luxury travel yachts. Now, we have the Poseidon 180 from Giancarlo Zema Design Group, which is being developed by Bugatti yachts. The 180-foot superyacht touts a military developed Bentley Yachts’ air cavity hull and a pioneering hull design. The luxurious yacht comes fitted with floating decks under a giant glass dome. There are eight staterooms that enrich you with the floor to ceiling panoramic ocean views. The Poseidon 180 is power driven by Bugatti Marine engines that can hit 40 knots. Priced at a whopping $50 million, the Poseidon 180 is merely a design for now.
