‘Nature’s Call’ - Flower Shaped Urinals
October 23, 2007

These urinals created by Clark Sorenson are definitely a work of art but I don’t know if I’d feel comfortable ‘relieving myself’ on a gigantic flower. Maybe it’s years of human conditioning, or maybe it’s because I’ve seen Little Shop Of Horrors too many times, I just don’t know. And even though they may look like strictly museum pieces, and have been on display in several galleries, they are fully working urinals that can be hooked up to your home’s plumbing.
All pieces are made of high fire porcelain and fired to cone 10 in an oxidation atmosphere. The urinals are made of the same material of commercial toilets and can be installed and used. Each has been hand built and is a one-of-a-kind work of art - these pieces are not molded or mass produced.
Certain pieces are available for sale on Clark’s website and range in price from $6,500 up to $9,500 depending on the complexity and detail of the flower.

Toothbrush Inspired Sofa Concept
October 22, 2007
Now This is very cool!
To be honest I have no idea what actually inspired the design of this unique sofa. It could have been a toothbrush, a scrubbing brush, or even a bed of nails. It was created by a nameless student at Bucks New University in the UK and uses a series of plush ‘bristles’ to provide the sitter (if you can indeed remain sitting) with a relaxing massage.
While it’s obvious that ergonomics take a back seat to comfort with this particular design, it also looks like the sofa could trap large amounts of pocket change in-between each bristle as your guests excitedly try it out. So if the concept ever made it into production, after just a few weeks it might actually pay for itself.

Mushroom Lamps - Extra Light Yes, Extra Life No
October 2, 2007

Since I’ve already posted something for the Star Wars fanboys today I guess I should do the same for the Mario fans as well.
These Mushroom Lamps are powered by 2 white LEDs on the inside and are turned on and off by simply pressing on the top. They’re also cordless and require 4 AA batteries which should last quite a while given they’re only powering 2 LEDs.
Brando.com.hk is currently selling them in red, blue or green for $12 each.

Lighten-Up your Décor with Mu lighTable
September 19, 2007

This table is definately sexy!
We have earlier told you about illuminated LED coffee tables to perk up your decor and create a soothing atmosphere by its changing color patterns. Latest is this mu lighTable by Billycan Design. The light table embeds white LED fibre-optics in the acrylic table top
and remote-control color-changing LED in the base, so you can switch the colors to your liking. The geeky table will create the funky feel of night club into your own mini bar at home or you can also invite your date over for a LED-lit dinner!
Loved the design..but why do they have to name it “Ligh” then simply Light Table? Anyways, no word on the price or availability is known.

Visuals Of The World
September 11, 2007
Visuals of the World is one of those websites you have to visit to fully understand and appreciate.
The creators are on a quest to make the longest visual website in the world and are asking web users to share and contribute to their strip of “seamless” images. You can upload any image, in jpeg or giff format so long as it’s a maximum size of 75 K and 300 pixels in width and 700 pixels in height.
Of course, while contributing is fun, the site is all about the ocular experience. Right now, the “visual” is a ridiculous-scroll length and features vintage and contemporary images of all types. (Well, there’s nothing pornographic, but it’s well varied.)
Each image links back to it’s original source or another website, so while enjoying the aesthetics of the site you can also link to a small army of unrelated internet treats. It’s a site to behold.

Conclusive Proof The Audio Cassette Is Dead
September 10, 2007

By Andrew Liszewski
Well here’s some rather morbid proof for anyone that doubted the audio cassette format is finally deceased. Artist Brian Dettmer managed to find a good use for some old Motley Crue and Judas Priest cassettes by melting and forming them into a set of human skulls and skeletons.
The pieces were on display at the International Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago as part of Brian’s ‘Postoperative’ exhibit but that particular exhibition ended on April 20. Now I suspect they’re just sitting in his basement creeping out anyone who goes down to get something from the freezer.

Space Efficient Furniture From Tetris
September 10, 2007

If you live in a teeny little apartment, or even if you don’t, this combination furniture might come in handy. Depending on how you fit the pieces together, you can create chairs and a low table, a sofa, or even a bed. My only real question is what materials would be used, since I don’t generally fall asleep on two chairs and a table. Unless I’m in class. Anyway, I’d like to see some additional sets that you can combine in different ways to make more furniture, and perhaps if you collect them all, you could make some sort of super ultra badass, uh, combination sectional and loveseat.
